Ah transit in Toronto... Welcome to the 3rd world!
I was just in China during xmas and their transit system was WAY better than Toronto. I counted 11 lines with various transfer points for between lines. It's clean, all of the stations are accessible. They have doors by the tracks so no one can jump and hold up the train. And they are building more lines at much faster speed than TTC.
If you like China so much then maybe you should move there. Yeah they might have us beat in terms of transit but we kill them when it comes to livability. I for one would never want to live in that pollution infested commie nation, no matter how bright & shiny their train stations are.
Anon 5:40 - Just about every major city in the world beats Toronto when it comes to transit. I've been to Boston, New York, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Sydney and Melbourne. All of them destroy Toronto's transit system. They seriously make Toronto's transit look like a cruel joke to the people that live here.
P.S. I'm not anon 1:21. But where in their post did they say they preferred China over Toronto? They were simply pointing out that wherever they were in China had better, more efficient transit than here.
i love how the internet trolls blamed the TTC for this delay, when it wasnt their fault (as i know) some mysterious liquid that smelled like gasoline seeped into their tunnels, and couldve been disastrous if it had ignited..... but of course when ever the subway goes down its somehow the TTC fault and if this was in the states, obamas fault....
Anon 5:40 - I'm Anon 1:21. I'm simply stating the fact that our transit system is FAR behind other countries. My friends in China thinks that Toronto as a modernized system until I took a picture and she was like "THIS is your subway?? What kind of age do you live in??"
We only have 4 lines (with the sheppard line being practically useless)....our extensions takes YEARS to build and is far behind from what we need. the amount of time it takes for us to get 2 extra stops on the line is more than the time it takes them to add an entire line.
"First world" is overrated more often than not, I think.
Effort and motivation is what accomplishes things, not current cultural status or "resting on one's laurels".
So China can be "ass-about-face" on many things but STILL wind up having a first-rate transit system in some of its major cities simply by arbitrarily focusing on that specific endeavor.
China is spending money on subways because we all things made in China, not Canada.
